Cape Coral, FL (August 29, 2011) – The Robert F. Asleson Memorial ALA Conference Grant is pleased to announce that it has been classified as a public charity by the Internal Revenue Service. As such, it is exempt from Federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and all contributions to it are therefore fully deductible, as well. The Grant also is qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers and gifts.
Established by Bob’s friends and industry colleagues, the Robert F. Asleson Memorial ALA Conference Grant honors the memory of the late Bob Asleson, one of that industry’s most creative and prolific executives. An advisor and guide to countless members of the profession, Bob’s 50-year career spanned both traditional and innovative technologies, from reference materials to CD-ROMs to online databases. He held presidential positions at several leading information companies, and served on countless organization boards.

In announcing the IRS decision, Iris L. Hanney, president of the grant’s board of directors and founder of Unlimited Priorities, said, “We worked very hard to comply with the IRS guidelines for charitable organizations, and are gratified to be recognized as a public charity. We hope that this ruling will encourage individuals and organizations throughout the information industry to donate to the Grant in support of students of Library Science.”
Charles Abels Massie, CPA/CFP®, financial advisor to the Robert F. Asleson Memorial ALA Conference Grant, added: “In today’s world of fraudulent entities it is always a pleasure to work with a Not For Profit entity (and its board of directors) that does things the right way and so is able to earn “Not For Profit” status from the Internal Revenue Service based upon significant required documentation. This status was granted at the same time that the IRS is decertifying numerous other Not For Profit entities for not living up to their agreed mission statements and/or for producing documentation lacking in many areas.”
