Robert F. Asleson Memorial ALA Conference Grant Increases Funding Through Individual Donations

Cape Coral, FL (September 19, 2011) – The Robert F. Asleson Memorial ALA Conference Grant has announced the receipt of a number of donations from individuals currently active in the information community. These donors all were influenced at some point in their careers through interaction with Bob Asleson, late founder and president of The Redalen Group.

Bob was a man of true integrity and honor. It was a pleasure to know and work with Bob. I loved his passion for libraries. He is very much missed today. He leaves a wonderful legacy, and one that we should strive to attain. –Annette Harwood Murphy

Candidates for an ALA-accredited Master of Library Science degree can apply for the grant that subsidizes attendance at the American Library Association Midwinter Meeting or Annual Conference. Recipients are selected based on economic need and an essay written according to criteria set by the grant’s board of directors. Applications for attendance at the 2012 Midwinter Meeting in Dallas, Texas are due by October 15. Each grant is for $1,500.

Established by Bob’s friends and industry colleagues, this grant honors the memory of the late Bob Asleson, one of that industry’s most creative and prolific executives. An advisor and guide to countless members of the profession, Bob’s 50-year career spanned both traditional and innovative technologies, from reference materials to CD-ROMs to online databases. He held presidential positions at several leading information companies, and served on countless organization boards.
