Unlimited Priorities Corporation to Provide Marketing and Sales Analysis Support for American Economic Association

Cape Coral, FL (November 16, 2007)Unlimited Priorities, a company specializing in support for organizations within the information industry, has been selected to provide sales analysis support and marketing services for the American Economic Association (AEA) publications office.

AEA publishes American Economic Review (AER), Journal of Economic Literature (JEL) and Journal of Economic Perspectives (JEP) as well as the EconLit bibliography of journals, books, collective volume articles, book reviews, working papers and dissertations. AEA’s publications website, AEAweb.org, provides online editions of the three journals for Association members and subscribing libraries and institutions, the JEL classification system and the JEL/EconLit journal list with links to publishers’ websites. AEAweb.org includes Resources for Economists on the Internet (RFE), JOE (job openings for economists) and links to the Association web site, which provides membership and subscriptions information, the AEA Directory, news, annual conference information and more.

Unlimited Priorities will furnish a variety of services to the AEA. Unlimited Priorities will review the AEAweb.org website and provide suggestions regarding the updating of graphic materials and the creation of additional information for users, as applicable; design a new exhibit booth and display materials for use at conferences; create updated marketing essentials including folders, brochures and information sheets; originate advertising copy and layouts; create and distribute press releases on a timely basis; and provide a sales data review that will strategically organize information coming from information providers.

Drucilla Ekwurzel, AEA Director of Publication Services and Managing Director of EconLit Production and Marketing, discussed the reasons for working with Unlimited Priorities: “Three years ago the AEA consolidated its editorial staffs into one main Publications Office in Pittsburgh. After the expansion, the small JEL/EconLit staff was no longer able to devote the necessary time to marketing. Unlimited Priorities presented a solution for our multiple, but limited, marketing needs by providing expertise in marketing, sales analysis, advertising, conference exhibitions and public relations. I couldn’t be more pleased with the results of our collaboration! The Unlimited Priorities staff has grasped our need to disseminate news to economists and institutions about our journals, EconLit and web information services, while maintaining the AEA’s scholarly image and reputation for high quality and low cost.”

Iris L. Hanney, Unlimited Priorities president, responded, “Exploring the history and inner workings of AEA has been interesting and instructive. Unlimited Priorities is proud to help AEA enhance its provision of critical economic information during these turbulent times. We deem it a privilege to support a service that can analyze and benefit such a key area both in the United States and around the globe.”

Why Does It Seem Like 1989?

John Ganly

John Ganly

Déjà vu is a forever buzzword and this year it keeps buzzing for me. The public library is a cross section of the community, and better than most pundits the librarians can spot trends before they happen. The sad trend that I began to spot in January is the increase in the number of men and women in business dress sitting in the reading room in mid-afternoon. It was 1989 when I last saw this phenomenon.

Recession murmurs were in the air in 1989, and the murmurs became a roar which lasted until 1993. By 1990 the number of business persons investigating job opportunities, career changes or doing pick-up consulting work had grown to the point where numbers had to be assigned for seating. We are not at that point yet, but getting there at SIBL.

Public libraries assume their role as havens in tough times. On September 12, 2001 when I arrived at work at 8:00 AM there were 300, or so, folks lined up outside the building. Grateful for a safe place with e-mail connection to let their folks know they were OK, the crowd kept repeating “Thank God for the library!”

The growing legions of the laid-off are finding comfort and help here at SIBL. In anticipation of the needs of mid-career job seekers, I have added the Vault Career Library and Universum’s New Career databases. Resume guides and cover letter models are represented in both the circulating collection and the research resources. E-Books describing career change options have been acquired. The Lap Top Docking area has been expanded and the Electronic Information Center has new computers put in place to serve the folks doing pick up consulting.

Recession is a sad time, and it is difficult to think of good coming from it. However, during the 1989-1993 trouble many library users became aware of CD-ROM technology for the first time, and now an awareness of new technologies also is being noticed. When we hear the mantra that libraries are no longer relevant we can be happy that we are here when needed.
